“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.”

I have been living and working on Tenerife for over 25 years. For the past 17 years, I have been organizing hotel internships in the Canary Islands. Before that, I worked in various departments in the hotel industry on Tenerife and worked my way up to hotel management. When I was your age, I did an internship in the animation department of a 4-star hotel in Spain, before starting my studies. Because of this, I can completely relate to your situation. As a young person, you just want to get away from your home country for a while, have a lot of fun, and gain experience. In addition to all the new, enriching experiences my internship brought me, what was particularly important for my future was that I was able to develop enormous self-confidence during that time.

My wanderlust remained, so after completing my studies, I moved to Hawaii. During that time, I realized once and for all that I wanted to live abroad permanently – specifically in a place with pleasant climatic conditions. However, for family reasons, I decided that it shouldn’t be on a distant continent. So, I chose Europe. I wanted to enjoy good weather and lush vegetation all year round. I also valued a multicultural population and low crime rates. That’s how I ended up on the Canary Islands. I haven’t regretted my decision for a single day.

We truly live in paradise here!

As the managing director of the internship placement agency S-W-E-P, I will do everything possible to ensure you have a pleasant and successfully hotel internship experience in the Canary Islands, mainland Spain, Malta, Costa Rica or Greece. You can contact me at any time.

Hello! I’m Chrissy, and I work in the Human Resources and Marketing departments at S-W-E-P

“In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take.”

As part of my studies, I had to complete an internship abroad, which is how I came into contact with S-W-E-P. It was very important for me to do my internship abroad because it not only gave me the opportunity to experience many new cultures but also to expand my knowledge in an international context.

Anyone who has the opportunity to go abroad and do an internship in a hotel should take it, in my opinion. The experiences you gain in other countries, both at work and in your free time, are difficult to replicate at home. The sense of independence is truly indescribable. Of course, it takes a bit of courage at first, but once you’re settled in, you don’t want to go back. The consistently warm temperatures, walks on the beach, and the friendly people quickly make it clear that it was one of the best decisions you could make.

That’s why I highly recommend taking the first step!

“No such thing as spare time, no such thing as free time, no such thing as down time. All you got is life time. Go.”

My journey with S-W-E-P also began with an internship. In my opinion, internships are a great way to step out of your comfort zone and gain new experiences. What I particularly enjoy about working at S-W-E-P is seeing how happy our interns are after we have organized a hotel internship for them. It fills me with joy and enthusiasm to be actively involved in the development of young people. In the beginning, interns often come to us with many questions and uncertainties. It’s fascinating to see how they develop during their internship. From the initial uncertainties to the moment when, at the end of their internship, they look back on their experiences with pride and satisfaction. It makes me happy to be part of this process and to see how they acquire professional skills, grow personally, and become more confident.

For those who are considering taking the opportunity of an internship abroad, I can highly recommend the Canary Islands. The Canaries are much more than just a dream holiday destination – they offer the perfect combination to gain professional experience while discovering one of the most beautiful regions in Europe. The pleasant climate all year round creates the ideal balance between work and leisure. This provides the best conditions to develop professional skills and fully enjoy life at the same time.

Hi, I’m Andreas and I work as a freelancer for S-W-E-P

I came to the Canary Islands through a hotel internship organized by S-W-E-P. I completed my internship as an Assistant Manager at a 5-star hotel in Lanzarote. After the internship, I received a permanent position at a hotel here in Tenerife and now I work as a freelancer in the administrative sector for the Spanish Work Exchange Programme. It’s fantastic to see how many young people benefit from the opportunity of a hotel internship and how enthusiastically they talk about their internship experience in the Canaries. I can completely understand this enthusiasm, as life here offers numerous advantages: a wonderful climate, a wide range of leisure activities, a diverse landscape, and many friendly people from all around the world. This international atmosphere and daily multicultural exchange enrich our life here and create valuable personal connections. There is so much to discover on the Canary Islands that it takes a while to see everything – especially the many things the islands offer beyond the typical tourist spots.

From my own experience, I highly recommend a hotel internship organized by S-W-E-P. The experiences and contacts from Conny, as well as her fantastic support, are invaluable – and who knows which opportunities might arise on the Canary Islands after the hotel internship…

I started my hotel internship, organized by S-W-E-P, in the field of Public Relations and Quality Management at a 5-star hotel in Tenerife. I was quickly impressed by the island’s diverse beauty and its sunny temperatures. The work at the hotel was also a great pleasure from the start. I got along excellently with my colleagues, who helped me immensely in mastering the Spanish language. Right from the first day, they communicated with me in Spanish, which allowed me to significantly improve my Spanish skills in a short period.

During my time in Tenerife, I was excellently supported by Conny Lassen and could reach out to her at any time.

Today, I work with great joy as a freelance translator for Spanish/German and English/German at S-W-E-P. I am thrilled to see how many young interns, like myself, are convinced by the Canary Islands and their high quality of life. My hotel internship was an unforgettable experience that enriched me both personally and professionally, and I can only recommend that everyone should have this experience as well.

Hi! I’m Nicole and I work for S-W-E-P in the IT department

Taking a break from university life before “real life” begins and doing something completely different – that was the plan.

I work for S-W-E-P in the IT sector. Our company is young, full of positive energy and enthusiasm, and I really enjoy working here. At the beginning, my main goal was to get to know the Spanish culture, with which I had hardly had any contact before. But it turned out to be much more than just “getting to know.” I now dance Flamenco, have built a circle of Spanish friends, speak a lot of Spanish (at a much better level than I could have ever achieved in regular Spanish language courses), and I especially enjoy dishes from the Spanish and Canarian cuisine, particularly fresh fish.

The way of life that the Canarios seem to be born with quickly rubs off on your own life. Sun, beach, and sea just make you happy, and when you’re sitting in a beach bar in the evening, still wearing summer clothes in the winter, listening to lounge music mixed with the sound of the waves, and enjoying a delicious glass of wine – you never want to leave this place. The decision to come here was the best one I could have made, and I would make it again any time.
